The Raggengill Rescue

In 2017, after years of efforts from some dedicated beardie owners and a charity we hold close to our hearts (Beardies In Need), the poor dogs at Raggengill Kennels were rescued and set free into their loving forever homes. Bobbys mum, dad and 4 younger siblings (the pups) were amongst those rescued that day. It was triumphant.

Rowan, Bobbys mum was forced to have her first litter of puppies at 8 months old when she had her first season. Many of the pups over the years have had severe health issues and she’s been treated like a money pit, churning out littler after litter.

Carolyn went down all the official routes, local authorities, Kennel club, trading standards and sspca but to no avail.

The animal welfare act does not go far enough.

As long as the dogs have food, water, shelter and do not require immediate veterinary treatment or there lives are at risk NO organisation has the power to remove them.

Raggengill does not tick any of the above boxes so there they stayed.

At the beginning of the video you can see the state of the dogs when BIN first got them out of there and gradually one by one going off to their new homes. Our fabulous dog groomer came out and shaved off Rowans coat to make her feel more comfortable.

This is just one example of the fabulous work Beardies in Need do.

We wouldn’t change Bobby for the world but we urge you not to make the same mistake. As mentioned on The Kennel Club  “All puppies are cute, and unless the puppy itself is unclean or has a visible health condition, there is no way of telling from just the look of the dog what conditions they have been bred in, or what they will be like when they grow up. Before you hand over any money, ensure that you’re absolutely convinced that you’re dealing with a responsible breeder.”

Make sure that you ask all the questions you need in order to feel satisfied that the breeder is trustworthy including hip and elbow scores.
